Our 2011 featured speaker, Bettie Bearden Pardee, brings to Tablescapes her unique perspective on “America’s fine and fabulous” - Newport, Rhode Island. This elegant locale has epitomized high style and exceptional entertaining throughout its long and storied history. Surrounded by breathtaking ocean views, Newport is renowned for its colonial heritage, the Vanderbilts and Gilded Age decadence, the romance of Jack and Jackie Kennedy, the spirited tales of heiress Doris Duke, and its polished yacht fleets.

Regarded as one of Newport’s most gracious hostesses, Bettie Bearden Pardee invites us to join her beyond the privet hedges and iron gates and to enter the world of elegance and high style that is Newport. Bettie’s books Private Newport: at Home and in the Garden and Newport in Flower step inside privately-owned mansions to discover a world of exceptional entertaining, art, architecture, design and flowers. Described as the “Martha Stewart of Newport”, Bettie is also an award-winning floral designer, GCA flower judge, co-chairman of the Newport Flower Show and a seasoned lecturer. She produced the “Entertaining With Style” feature as a contributing editor to Bon Appetit for 11 years. Well-versed in television work, Bettie was the creative producer and host of the series “Presidential Palate: Entertaining at the White House” on PBS and additionally, she has produced and appeared on many morning television programs including Good Morning America. Bettie and her husband Jonathan, a native Newporter, currently reside in Newport.
